Andrei Zatoka's harsh five-year sentence for assault has been overturned and replaced with an undisclosed fine, marking the second time in three years the prominent Turkmen environmental activist has narrowly avoided going to prison for what he believes were trumped-up charges. There are many words in different languages with which you can thank a person, yet they would still not be enough to express our gratitude. To friends who from the outset took on the “Zatoka case” a most heartfelt thank you! This morning, Andrey Zatoka’s sentence was commuted to a fine at his appeal in the Dashovuz Oblast Court. He is finalizing documents and on his way to Russia. The international community is continuing to monitor the situation closely until Andrey arrives on Russian soil. He is scheduled to arrive in Moscow on Saturday, November 7th.
